When I first posted the link to this comic in our link roll (over on the right), I thought I had just found a funny, little tech-related strip. But after scouring the archives of The Brads, I realized that the tech crowd may now have a new comic that stands alongside those beloved stick figures. You have to understand, it’s hard for me to find something that keeps my interest on a long-term basis, so if these guys can do it (and so far I’m quite excited to see the next one), then it deserves a write up.
Wanting to know more about the comic, I went to Brad Colbow, creator of The Brads, with a few questions. Brad informed me that he updates the site every Tuesday, which is a godsend considering that the majority of the webcomics I read don’t update then. This lack of daily comic distraction is part of the reason behind the next question I proposed to Brad: “Are there any other comics that you frequent or routinely check?” Xkcd was on his list, but some that I hadn’t heard of included Piled Higher & Deeper and Fredo & Pid’jin. A quick glance at both reveals that Brad does indeed have good taste. Check them both out.
But onto the golden question! How long does it take to produce a comic that ends up on BoingBoing? Brad confided that his recent comic was put together about 2 hours before posting time! Not many people can spend only 2 hours making something and get the traffic reward sites like BoingBoing can provide. It takes a specific amount of awesome do that (and, as Brad has a particularly scientific sounding last name, we’ll say it takes 8.5 colbows of awesome).
So, if you’re in the market to increase your tech/web comic portfolio, then give The Brads a thorough browsing. And Brad, all of us at Right-Click Reload love your comic… but we cannot condone the use of IE6. It’s for “testing?” That’s like testing a gun by playing russian roulette, Brad! Please tell me you’re not using a three-years-expired Norton demo, too…
